Conceptually, the idea for this city is a central trade center and spaceport for a planet being mined for its resources. Largely the planet is not a particularly nice place to live. The city was originally built to facilitate landing of cargo spacecraft and provide a few luxuries for miners to escape the rigors of mining. As more and more corporations found uses for the planet's resources, they moved more people and equipment there. With more population, demand increased for recreation and creature comforts -- and more accountability was needed. All of this required yet more staff and resources. Soon, corporations were building admin buildings and processing facilities. Miners moved their families there. Bulk shipping made fresh food and comfort items more affordable and practical. Soon a bustling city was born. Hemmed in by rocky terrain and deserts, much of its growth involved upward contruction rather than outward expansion with entire mini-cities contained within its towers.
